Computer goes to blue screen after i press shutdown?

almost every time i shutdown my vista dell dimension e521 it automatically reboots to a blue screen that says remove any new hardware and then when it logs back in and i turn the computer off again it actually stays off. how do i fix this problem? i didn't add any new hardware.
